I was so excited to get this wall in my living room decorated with my DIY Farmhouse Style Photo Frames! My brother took some family photos of us during our trip to AZ this winter and I am so grateful for his talent and the amazing job he did.
As soon as I saw the pictures, I knew I wanted to use them as a large kind of decoration… I just wasn’t sure how to make it look right in my home. So I came up with these super simple DIY Farmhouse Style Photo Frames. You guys, these are so easy!! But aren’t they just perfect?! I placed them on a shelf, hung a Hobby Lobby sign under it, and ta-da! They really look perfect in my home. I am so happy with how it turned out.
Besides that these DIY Farmhouse Style Photo Frames are budget friendly, I love that they also can be made to whatever size you need and whatever color you need. Totally customizable to match your decor and taste.
I went with neutral paint colors, creams, grays and browns, and I really love how it brings out the neutrals in the pictures.
I ordered my prints from mpix.com and was very impressed with the quality.
To begin, I had to figure out what size pictures I would be mounting. Once I had photos chosen and ordered, I drew out some quick measurements. Since I basically wanted a 2″ frame around each picture, I figured out how large each finished frame should be. My largest print was 16×20, so that particular ‘frame’ I wanted to be approximately 20×24.
The frames are made with flat pieces of 3 1/2″ or 2 1/2″ wide wood, and cut to the needed length. You can find these 36″ pieces of wood at your local Home Depot or Lowes.
These strips of poplar are super light weight which makes them perfect for this project.
I used some scraps of thin wood and wood glue and put a couple across the back of each ‘frame’ to hold the slats of wood together.
Use some acrylic craft paint and foam brushes and paint the frames your desired colors.
To mount the pictures, I used upholstery tacks in each corner! I love how rustic they look, it really adds the finishing touch to this project. The tacks are very inexpensive as well!
