Mother’s Day is a great holiday to have kids make a cute handmade gift for Mom. Store bought gifts are great, too, and Moms love those, but there’s something extra special when a child makes something for their Mother or Grandma (or whoever else!) for Mother’s Day. Even when a craft is not “perfect” with their cutting skills or coloring or glueing, the thought behind it makes it all the more lovely! And these are treasures! You’ll love making this ‘Mother’s Day Flower Pot Craft for Kids!’
Mother’s Day Flower Pot Craft for Kids
This flower pot craft for kids is made out of craft foam and a pipe cleaner, that’s it! It couldn’t get much simpler than that!
Here’s what you need:
-
our free printable template
-
sticky back red craft foam
-
a piece of 2mm green foam
-
a piece of 5 mm pink foam
-
a green pipe cleaner
-
some basic supplies, like a glue gun, scissors, pen
:: PIN IT NOW FOR LATER ::
Start by printing out the free printable template.
Trace the “star” shape and small leaf onto green foam and cut. Poke a hole through the dot. (I just used the tip of my seam ripper. You don’t want to use something that will make a large hole, just something to poke through it like a needle.)
Trace the circle onto the thicker pink foam. Poke a hole through the dot.
Trace the flower pot piece onto the pink foam. (use decorative scissors if desired for the top edge) Put the edges snug up against each other and hot glue in place.
Trace the main flower piece onto the sticky back red foam piece. I traced it on the back paper part, that way none of the pen is seen later.
(notice how the template is cut out and traced on)
It should look like this after it’s all traced on.
Now cut it like you did the template, starting with the outer pen line as shown below.
Then cut around the next pen line. It will form one continuous long piece.
Poke a hole through the dot.
Remove the sticky back from the main flower piece.
Begin rolling it starting at the outer edge, as shown in the picture below. In the beginning, you want to roll somewhat tight since this is the center of the flower. Then, you can loosen up a little more the farther along you go.
Roll it to form the flower, shaping it as you go.
To hold it all together, press up the center around the flower as shown in the picture below.
Push the pipe cleaner through the hole of the pink circle, add the green flower petal piece, put the individual green leaf on top of that; continue to push the pipe cleaner through the hole in the center of the red flower piece until it feels secure.
Fold the pipe cleaner over for a little added security.
Carefully insert the entire thing into the flower pot.
Trim the pipe cleaner.
Adjust the flower to where it’s just coming up out of the pot. (If you leave the flower too tall, the rose is top heavy and won’t stand up nicely.)
Roll up the excess pipe cleaner into the pot.
