Back in April, we had a surprise party for our Mom’s 60th birthday. If you know our Mother, you know she looks nothing like 60 years old. She looks so young! This is something we girls are all hoping to inherit, lol. 🙂 So, when we were planning games for the party, I thought how FUN it would be to have a Scattergories type game. Our family loves Scattergories. If you are not familiar with the game, you roll a letter and a timer then starts. During the allotted time period, you have to think of answers to the different categories with something that starts with the rolled letter. This free printable birthday game added so much fun to the party!
For example, in the normal game, say I roll the letter “N.” I then have just a couple of minutes to think of and write down my answers. A category might be 1) a fruit, 2) a movie title, 3) a favorite vacation spot, etc. So, I would be quickly trying to think of answers before my time ran out.
So, for this game, I did all party/birthday things for the categories. When we played this, we used our mother’s name, LINDA. But, I changed that to PARTY. This is loads and loads of fun!

Free Printable Birthday Scattergories Game
THE DIRECTIONS TO THE GAME ARE AS FOLLOWS:
Pass out a free printable paper to each player with a pen or pencil.
Object of the Game:
Quickly fill out your category list with answers that begin with the same letter. You will score points if no other player matches your answers. To win the game, score the most points.
How to Play:
You will be playing this in 5 rounds (a round for each letter.)
Start a 2-minute timer.
During the 2 minutes, all players quickly fill in the first column of their answer sheets. (which in this game is the letter P) Answers must fit the category, and must begin with the key letter.
Once the time stops, everyone puts down their pens.
Players, in turn, read their answers aloud. Players mark their own answer sheets by circling acceptable answers that do not match any other player’s answers. Continue reading answers until all 10 categories have been marked. Then score 1 point for each of your circled answers. Record your score at the top of the first column.
Move on to round 2 which is the second column (the letter A).
Start the 2-minute timer.
Same thing, during the 2 minutes, all players quickly fill in the second column of their answer sheets. Answers must fit the category, and must begin with the key letter.
Score the round just like before.
Move on to rounds 3, 4 and 5. letters R, T, Y)
At the end of the game, add up the points from ALL the rounds. The player with the most points is the winner!

Sounds like a blast! Scattergories is always a hit. Did anyone come up with a really wild or hilarious answer starting with the rolled letter?
What a great idea for a birthday party game! Scattergories is always a blast. I can just imagine the chaos and laughter as everyone tries to come up with answers starting with that random letter. Did your mom manage to keep up with all the wild guesses? And which category was the most challenging? I once played and struggled to think of animals starting with ‘Q’. Can’t wait to hear more about this fun celebration!
