Such a fun easy project – all you need is clothespins, glue, and paint to make these coasters!
With Labor Day right around the corner, I thought I’d share this quick project with you that’s simple enough to do in an hour or two. For those of us who experience seasons in our weather ;-), there won’t be too many warm summer nights left to sit outside and sip lemonade. For those of you in the South . . . well, you’ll be able to use these for the majority of the year 🙂
Just a few simple things are all you need for these DIY Mini Pallet Coasters:
- 12 clothespins per coaster (so for a set of four I needed 48)
- hot glue gun
- red, white, and blue acrylic paint
As you can see, the price is minimal! I grabbed the clothespins at Dollar General for super cheap and already had paint and hot glue around the house.
Take apart the clothespins. You’ll just need to twist and pull, and it’ll separate into 2 wooden pieces and the metal clip.
Now you should have 24 wooden pieces per coaster.
Take 12 of those pieces, and cut the angled tip off of each piece.
Save the tips (you need these for the coasters!), and set aside or throw away the pieces you just cut the tips off of.
Now get the 12 pieces that you didn’t cut. Plug your hot glue gun in, and glue the tips to those pieces as pictured. See how now you have squared off rectangular pieces, getting rid of the angle?
Now that we have squared off pieces, we can hot glue them all together to form the coaster. Just put glue wherever needed and make it look like the picture.
Paint them however you desire! Be creative and make them uniquely yours. I watered my paints down to give it the washed-out look that I wanted – then I could still see some of the woodgrain through the paint.
Tada! I was so happy with how these turned out and the possibilities are endless. Now for the next set . . . shall we whitewash them . . . do a simple stain to show off the natural woodgrain . . . paint them in bright colors to match the patio furniture . . . haha See! 😉 Let me know what you would do to your set 🙂
Very cute idea! Making stuff out of pallets is so popular these days too!
