Think loaded baked potatoes turned into THE BEST appetizer ever! Crispy, cheesy Loaded Tater Tot Cups. It’s a great savory finger food that is incredibly easy to make. Bake the tater tots til crisp, then load them up with sour cream, bacon, cheese and chives…. just like a loaded baked potato!
Making the Loaded Tater Tot Cups
I love making this recipe for parties or guests because of how easy it is, and everyone always loves them! I can prep the cups ahead of time, pop them in the oven for a minute right before I need them to make sure they’re warm, then let the guests load them with the toppings of their choice! It’s a win for everyone. The shortcut is to use frozen tater tots!!
Spray each cupcake tin with an olive oil nonstick spray. Add 5-6 tater tots into each tin and sprinkle with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parmesan.
Bake for several minutes, then using a small glass, press the tots into the tin to form a cup shape.
Add some cheese and bake for several more minutes until they are super crispy little cups!
The tater tot cups will slide right out and keep their shape easily once they have crisped up.
Then add all the toppings! Like, chives, sour cream, bacon, and more cheese! So delicious!
TIP: I used a small 1 ounce Pyrex glass measuring cup and it worked just right to form the cup shape! I did need to spray the small glass with non stick spray before smashing each tin.
The Toppings
One of my favorite things about this recipe is how versatile it can be! You can load these cups with so many different things.
For a classic loaded baked potato appetizer, you would add sour cream, bacon, green onion, and shredded cheddar cheese.
Another version you can try is a crispy breakfast cup! Add some scrambled eggs, bacon, green onion, sour cream and maybe a little chopped avocado or salsa.
Another favorite is a cheeseburger inspired cup! Add some ground beef, cheese, diced onion, pickle and a little ketchup nd mustard. Yum!
Or try a taco cup! Seasoned beef, olives, sour cream, salsa. Even add finely chopped lettuce and tomato.
There are so many different flavors to try! So much fun!!
