THIS IS THE PERFECT TIME OF YEAR TO GIVE YOUR HOME A NEW LOOK!! BY SIMPLY GIVING YOUR FRONT DOOR A MAKEOVER, YOU’LL TAKE YOUR LOOK FROM ‘BLAH’ TO STUNNING, FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL!
5 SIMPLE STEPS AND YOU’LL HAVE ONE BEAUTIFUL DOOR!
STEP 1: Choose a paint color!
So many options! Decide if you want your door to really stand out and make a statement or if you want to stick with a more neutral color. If you are like me, this will be the most time consuming step of them all! Be sure to consider your siding or brick color, roof color, etc, and make sure none of the colors will clash. But also think outside the box a little if you want a statement door! You can get some sample colors and swipe some on to see how it looks if you are really having trouble making the decision!
The paint I used was Behr Marquee. It is a little more expensive, but it is their most advanced paint and primer in one with exceptional resistance to dirt and fading and is supposed to have long lasting color!
STEP 2: Remove hardware and clean!
I only had to remove the kick plate from the bottom of the door. You should be able to tape off the knob and lock area later. Then scrub! I used an all purpose cleaner and got the door good and clean.
STEP 3: Sand!
After I cleaned the door, I noticed there were some rough areas and a ridge of paint along where the kick plate had been in place. I used a palm sander and just lightly sanded down any area that seemed rough. Be sure to wipe the door down once more to get rid of any dust from sanding.
STEP 4: Paint!
Tape off any areas you don’t want to get paint on and you are ready to put on the first coat! I found Sherwin Williams A-E Paint Steps very helpful in knowing what order to paint each area of the door. For the inner frame areas, I used a small foam brush and for the flat areas, I actually used a edge painter, like this. I LOVE theses things! You can purchase replacement pads, too!
I did 3 coats of paint and left the door sitting open for hours so it could dry well. Again, perfect time of year for this!
STEP 5: Decorate!
Put the final touch on with a beautiful piece of decor. I chose to make a very simple wreath with white flowers and a ribbon bow. My door is bright and cheery and this simple wreath really just puts that final touch on and makes it beautiful!!!
Do you mind me asking what the name or code of the paint colour you used, it’s beautiful
