ICED LEMON GINGER TURMERIC TEA

You may or may not know that turmeric, the main spice in curry, has several health benefits.

The most amazing one to me is its anti-cancer effects, since turmeric contains the healing-compound ‘curcumin.’

(Here is a great article on the benefit of turmeric [read #6 about cancer!])

So, it doesn’t hurt to sneak some into a nice cold drink like this Iced lemon Ginger Turmeric Tea! 🙂

On summer days, I love having a nice, cold drink that’s also super-healthy for me and guilt-free!

(Iced Chamomile Tea is another one to try!)

(Drinking this tea HOT is just as yummy!)

I’ve been keeping my fridge supplied with this Iced Lemon Ginger Turmeric Tea, and my entire family loves it.

My kids say it tastes just like “juice,” but they are getting so many health benefits by drinking this once a day, and it makes this momma happy! 😉

HOW TO MAKE TURMERIC TEA

To make this tea, you’ll need fresh ingredients – fresh ginger, fresh lemon, cinnamon sticks, and turmeric.

I love how pretty and bright these ingredients are!

TIP: to peel ginger, just use the edge of a spoon! It scrapes off really easily!

You’ll need 1/4 cup sliced fresh ginger, 2 sliced fresh lemons, 3 cinnamon sticks, and 1 tsp. turmeric.

Combine the above ingredients with 2 quarts water in a medium saucepan, bring to a boil, then simmer for about 10 minutes.

After the tea is done and cooling, combine the juice from 2 lemons with sweetener of your choice. I usually use about 1/3 cup of raw honey, but you can use whatever you like!

Next, add the lemon-honey mixture to a pitcher, then strain the tea into the pitcher, leaving the lemon, ginger, and cinnamon behind.

Kay, one of our readers, says:

“I made this drink and it’s really good! I added about 1/2 tsp of black pepper because the capsaicin in black pepper aids the absorption of the Curcumin in turmeric helping your body receive all the health benefits of turmeric. This is a refreshing summer drink and a good way to get turmeric into your system!”

  1. Just getting my ginger tea on this morning. Sitting here going through pintrest and saw your post….what is funny to me is that in the Asian market uncannily ginger tea in a jar..but I am not near a good store so wanting to be more natural I made up my own tea. Lol..then your post ( as I’m drinking my tea). I see the convenience fed will try your recipe but do you have a suggestion on how much turmeric and cinnamon to add if I wanted to just make a cup?…I’m thinking on it…lol…thank you…oh and the hat stuff is great but making ginger tea fresh is lots greater…lol

  2. I have not tried mine yet but it smells delightful, just cooling now. Are there problems with drinking too much of it?

  3. DONTWORRYABOUTIT

LIKE THE RECIPE. BUT THE PROBLEM IS THAT VIRUSES ARE KILLED BY HIGH TEMPERATURES THATS WHY PRODUCTS LIKE THERFLU WORKS. THIS DRINK SERVES NO PUPOSE COLD. ITS NOT ABOUT FUN AND TASTE ANYMORE ITS ABOUT HEALTH AND WELLNESS. AND YES YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO SACRIFICE TASTE FOR BETTER HEALTH….THAT’S JUST THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER.

    • We aren’t claiming that this drink will cure anything, it’s simply to boost our immune systems and help keep us strong and healthy during cold and flu season! Unfortunately, Theraflu doesn’t “cure” anything either – it just relieves symptoms while your body fights the virus. Please don’t think drinking something very hot will kill a virus – you’ll only burn your insides!

This was absolutely the best recipe. THE BEST I SAY. Followed exactly as it says this drink made is delicious warm or just cold in the refrigerator. It is yummy. I found myself reaching to pour myself this concoction. I could’ve drank the whole thing in a day. Honey is definitely a plus to sweeten. My stomach is so happy and it really helped with my cravings.
