What could better than a new baby?! Pretty much nothing even compares! In our family we’ve got three new babies on the way, and my own was just born in December. We’re enjoying all the snuggles and cuddles while we can, and it’s wonderful! New babies mean new, fun baby gifts. 🙂 For my own daughter I made a knit afghan and it’s beautiful! Like these baby booties for example; these knit baby booties are adorable, easy to make and great for gifting! Any mom-to-be would love to be gifted with any of these! TIPS FOR KNITTING BABY BOOTIES:
First, you should pick an appropriate size pattern. If you plan to gift these at a baby shower for a newborn to wear, plan to make them in newborn size. Most patterns have a variety of sizes you can knit it in. Usually the pattern has parentheses for the different sizes. You just need to choose the correct size for the baby you are making it for.
Secondly, be sure to check your gauge before knitting the booties. If your gauge isn’t lining up with the pattern you’ve chosen, you could end up with a very large or very small pair of booties. You want your pair to match the gauge of the pattern so they end up the right size.
Thirdly, pick a yarn that would be good for baby’s skin. As we all know, a baby’s skin is very delicate. When making baby booties, shy away from wool yarn that would be scratchy against baby’s skin or cause them to break out in a rash. Acrylic yarn can be washed making it easy to care for. Pick a super soft yarn that would be comfy and cozy for baby!
