Bicycle Wheel Wreath (for fall!)
I was so excited to create this bicycle wheel wreath when a friend gave me an old bike wheel! I have been wanting to do this for a long time! It’s amazing what you can do with something that is seemingly trash — it just needs a little cleaning up and a fresh coat of paint (or not, if you want it really rustic!), and it can be used to make a variety of wreath styles!
This beautiful bicycle wheel wreath will bring such a statement to any space! Hang one on your door, inside or out, or put it on a blank wall by hanging it with a pretty ribbon!

But first: My DIY Bicycle Wheel Wreath for fall!
I *love* how this turned out! The mix of golds, creams, and oranges are just so beautiful for the fall season.
How to choose florals for a fall bike wheel wreath:
When choosing artificial flowers for your wreath, keep these things in mind:
First, you want to have some greenery to layer as your base. Look for a green that matches the tone of your fall flowers because some are more of a bright green and don’t go well with fall colors. I chose greenery that was not so “saturated” of a green as most of the others were.
Next, choose the flowers. I didn’t want ALL orange tones, so I chose a bouquet of gold and cream flowers to go with the orange ones. (I found that these bouquets were a better price than individual stems at Hobby Lobby.)
To go with the flowers, choose something that is very fall-themed. I specifically wanted something like what I bought in the picture below.
I would have also bought some other non-floral stems to add in, but my bouquet actually had some in it, like the ones pictured below.
What you need to make this wreath:
- bike wheel, painted if desired
- artificial flowers & greenery
- zip ties
- floral wire
- ribbon and nails for hanging
How to make a bicycle wheel wreath:
- First, you need to get a bike wheel and remove the tire. You can also remove the center bolt (mine seems permanently stuck 😏). Wash it and then leave it as is, or paint it the color you prefer. I used a matte black spray paint that is an all-in-one, paint + primer.
- Secondly, gather your florals and clip them into separate stems if you get bouquets like I did.
- The next thing you’ll need to do is arrange your greenery over the portion of the wheel that you want to cover. This will be a “base” for the other flowers to go on top of. I covered a little more than half of my wheel.
- Use zip ties to attach stems to the spokes of the wheel. The stems should overlap each other, so you may have 2 or 3 stems in a single zip tie.
- Next, lay your florals on top of the wheel to get a general idea of the look you like before attaching them. You can poke the stems in so they stay put while you play with this.
I did some basic groupings of 3 flowers to get the bulk of mine arranged, then added in the extras after that.
- Add in the “extras,” like the wheat-looking stems, and any other things like that. I really like the look of them sticking out around the edges, so I did that with mine. They didn’t even need secured for the most part, because the florals were so tightly packed on the wheel. I just stuck the stems in and they didn’t move.
- Zip tie everything in so it’s nice and secure! Once they’re attached, you can bend the heads of the flowers in the right direction, if needed. Then flip the wheel over and see if any other stems need tied down (use floral wire if you like, or more zip ties). Once everything is in place, clip all the zip tie ends down out of sight.
- To hang this on a door the easy way, put a thick ribbon on the bike wheel, then attach it to the top of the door with some brad nails. No one will ever see the nails or holes up there. 😄
