CUTE AND FUN MOTHER’S DAY BANNER IDEA!
So, I started with a large cardboard box. I was in search of a large appliance box but couldn’t get one in a hurry. I went to Home Depot and got this. You can’t beat $1.36!
You’ll just need some basic crafting supplies:
1) yardstick
2) pencil
3) exacto knife
4) white paint marker
5) large box
6) basic hot glue gun
The first thing I did was to open out the box by separating it where it was joined. Lay it out flat on your work surface. You should now have one big piece.
Now, take your ruler and using your exacto knife cut off one “portion” of your box.
You’ll want to cut off all the “flaps” of the box, as well.
You should now have a large rectangle approximately 54″ x 24″
Go ahead and “free draw” your banner shape. You’ll see in the picture the shape you’re going for. (Use pencil lightly as you may need to erase.)
You’ll want to use the full length of the piece of cardboard. Mine ended up about 14″ in height after the shape was penciled in.
You should now have a piece of cardboard that looks something like this.
Just a few steps left for this banner. 🙂
Go ahead and decide what your banner will say and find the middle letter. (Don’t forget to count spaces and exclamation marks.)
I started with my middle letter, which in this case was the letter ‘h’.
Again, I just used a pencil and lightly penciled in my letters. When I was happy with the look of it, I went over my letters with my paint marker. Paint markers come in a variety of colors and sizes, so experiment away! I knew I wanted my banner to have white letters. Unfortunately, my marker wasn’t the best, so I took a basic craft paint and used a brush to make them brighter white.
Ta-da! There you have it.
I then used a hot glue gun and positioned my tissue paper flowers where I wanted them. Tissue paper flowers are super easy and fun to make! You’ll find the tutorial here.
What a fun, bright banner for your next party! Be sure to come back and tell us how yours turned out. This would also make a cute decoration for a bridal or baby shower. Customize with your own words!
