A BIRD FEEDER CRAFT is a great way to get your children interested in the nature around them!
As school ends and summer break begins, we love for our kids to get as much time outdoors as they can! My kids are so excited to be playing in the pool, eating all the popsicles, watching the garden grow, going to the park, and all the fun outdoorsy things.
Something really great to do with your kids at the start of the summer is a bird feeder craft! There are so so many cute ideas out there. Kids love being a part of the nature around them! And what better way to whet their appetite to nature, and attract different birds to your outdoor space, than with a bird feeder that they took time to make with their own hands. It’s so much fun for them!!!
HOW TO MAKE A CITRUS BIRD FEEDER CRAFT
You just need a few basic things to make this cute bird feeder craft that my son found in a book from the library. He has a lot of interest in animals and science in general. Making a bird feeder and thinking about what birds might come eat was so intriguing to him! All the kids enjoyed making them together!
SUPPLY LIST:
- grapefruit
- birdseed
- peanut butter
- string or twine
- needle
INSTRUCTIONS:
- Cut your grapefruit in half crosswise. Remove the grapefruit sections, (save them to eat!), gently squeeze out any excess juice and pat the peel dry with paper towels.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together about 1 cup of birdseed and 1/4 cup peanut butter.
- Thread the string into the grapefruit cups at 4 different spots, leaving long tails to tie it together at the top. I cut my string about 16″ long.
- Scoop your mixture into the grapefruit cups.
- Hang for the birds to enjoy!

I just grabbed a bag of basic birdseed (like this one) from our local hardware store for my grapefruit feeders.
