Easy DIY thumbprint candy dish – great for grandparents gift!
I wanted my two little ones to make something special for their grandparents, so I started searching Pinterest trying to find that perfect idea. I did not find it! haha . . . . but was inspired to come up with my own super special project that I knew the grandparents would love. It would also be a great Valentine’s Day gift as well!
This is a very quick and simple grandparents gift project, and inexpensive too.
I used a ceramic plate from Walmart ($1), an oil based Sharpie ($3), and all-surface paint ($1) {check out how many color options they have!!}.
Oil based sharpies are AMAZING . . . you can do so much with them. You can get all the details on our DIY Sharpie Mugs Dos & Don’ts post to make the BEST personalized gifts ever.
You will need to start by lettering the print onto your plate. If you are not comfortable eyeing it freehanded, then I would recommend using a pencil first, then tracing with the oil-based Sharpie. It doesn’t even have to be the same wording or design as this. Get creative!
I couldn’t resist putting in this picture of that fat little hand ready to paint. 😛
Guide those chubby little hands to help them make thumbprint hearts with the all surface paint.
Next you will need to bake the plate in order to cure the paint properly. If you skip this step, the paint will easily peel and chip off, which you don’t want to happen!
Bake at 225 degrees for 2 hours.
This is easy to package in a cute gift bag, along with a bag of Hershey’s kisses! What a fun and thoughtful gift. The grandparents will love it, I can guarantee you that!
