I don’t know about your puppy, my puppy loves treats 🙂 And lately, she’s been loving ice cubes, blueberries, and peanut butter. So I figured I should combine her favorite things into a healthy homemade frozen dog treat for her to enjoy on these hot summer days. I also like to know what ingredients are in my dog treats – I don’t want added sugars or fillers. I like simple, healthy ingredients but I don’t want to spend a fortune on the ‘healthy’ dog treats at the pet stores. So I decided to come up with my own recipe with only three ingredients, making it an inexpensive healthy option for us!
For this Healthy Homemade Frozen Dog Treat recipe, you will need a silicone ice cube tray (silicone makes it easy to pop the frozen treats out). I got mine for $3 at Target – similar ones are here.
The three ingredients needed for the healthy dog treats are – plain yogurt (do NOT use a nut milk yogurt!), blueberries (you could use frozen if fresh aren’t available in your area), and peanut butter (I use unsweetened natural organic PB from Aldi).
This recipe is extremely easy. Just start by placing a blueberry in each ice cube spot.
Then add a spoonful of PB on top of the berry.
Next, place a spoonful of the yogurt on top of the PB and spread it out to fill the cube.
Freeze the treats for at least 3-4 hours before giving them to your doggie. When you’re ready to give your pup a healthy frozen treat, just pop one out!
My pup was so excited to get her treats. She had been at my feet the whole time I was making them so she was ready to sample them 🙂 Needless to say, they were a big hit.
*As with any treat, do not feed too many of these to your pup. I would keep it to just one a day or every other day. And never use treats as a meal replacement.
