The excitement you feel as a new home owner is so memorable! I remember when my husband and I, and at the time, 2 of our little ones, moved into a new house. Just about 15 min from where we previously lived, same town, etc… but it was a new house and so exciting!

Putting together a small basket as a Housewarming Gift is a very thoughtful way to show someone you are sharing in their joy and excitement!

I recently made up a Housewarming gift basket for some friends who bought a home, and wanted to share the idea with you all. I am also including a FREE PRINTABLE TAG that you can print and cut out to add a personal touch.

My go-to place for this kind of a thing is Hobby Lobby. I know I’ll always be able to find what I’m looking for, and most likely at least 3/4 of my items will be 40 or 50% off.

My favorite theme for a basket is going to always be a calm, neutral color theme. I like the simple and clean feel it brings. Nothing too bright or too loud or too busy, is going to be much more welcoming to the receiver.

I started with a WIRE BASKET with handles.

Then added a simple TOWEL, draped over the front.

There are only 4 items in my basket (plus the cloth). I think it helps add to the simplicity of the look, to not let it appear cluttered.

First, a SIGN. You know there are a gazillion of these at Hobby Lobby! I chose one about a ‘home’ and one that matched the type of the basket. This works well propped against the back of the basket and kind of gives a back drop for the rest of the items.

Second, a PLANT. I personally love some greenery in a home, so I chose a simple looking plant with a cream pot.

Third, a CANDLE. I have just a few candles that I really love, Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle are 2. But I have found that Kohl’s brand candles also are great, as well as Better Homes and Gardens candles (found at Walmart).

I tied my tag around the candle with some cream ribbon. You can download the printable at the end of this post!

Fourth, a HAND SOAP. Of course, Bath & Body Works will be a favorite for many when it comes to this item!! My second choice would be a Mrs. Meyer‘s soap! My soap added just a bit of color to the basket that complimented my tag. I love that!!
