How to Style Floating Shelves for Spring

Floating shelves are so fun to decorate – they’re such an original way to express your style each season!

I like to decorate mine without spending a lot of money – I have other things I’d rather spend my money on. 😉

So, what I do is look around the house for a few of my favorite things (some are stored in my seasonal decor tote) and bring them all together for my floating shelves for spring.

My mother-in-law actually styled my shelves this year because she was here visiting and she’s so good at it. I totally turned them over to her discretion! 🙂

3 TIPS: How to Style Floating Shelves for Spring

1. Choose a theme

My theme for my shelves this spring is light, neutral colors (beige, grays, browns) with a bit of pink and navy. These shelves are above my workspace, so I wanted something I’d enjoy seeing up close every day. These colors make me very happy. 🙂

My shelf decor looks bright and clean, and that makes me perk up even on cloudy days!

2. Stagger pieces that have text

I chose 3 “text pieces” for my shelves – the center one (“Great Is Thy Faithfulness”) is a free printable that you can get HERE.

My nature is to automatically be VERY symmetrical, so I have to be conscious of that or it will happen every time haha.

Shelves look better if the text pieces are staggered, instead of all lined up, all diagonal, or any other symmetrical combo. 😉

3. Add plants to boost the “spring” look

Nothing freshens up an area for spring more than plants do! Real plants or fake – either will do!

I have a combo of both live plants and fake plants on my shelves.

The live ones are on the right side near the window so that they get plenty of sun, but to keep the balance, I have a fake plant on the opposite side, which actually adds a lot of dimension to my shelves overall, since it “trails.”

Try to get plants that hang over the edges or grow down in vines for the ends of a shelf or two because it will add a great look!

How I Styled My Floating Shelves for Spring

Here’s what I used on my shelves this season:

1. Family photos

I have *several* framed photos around the house, so it was no problem to grab a couple to add to my shelves. It’s the perfect place to display photos.

2. Succulents

Succulents are a nice spring touch to floating shelves. Mine get enough sun here, and since they don’t need watered often, it’s fine having them up a bit high.

These mini succulents are from IKEA.

3. “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” free printable

In the center is a beautiful free printable that took minutes to print and frame. You can download it HERE!

4. Live plants

I have a friend that is amazing at growing plants from clippings, so she has given me several gorgeous ones!

This pretty grassy-looking plant in a pale pink pot fits my spring-style exactly! Plus, it hangs over the edge a bit, which really adds dimension to the shelves!

She also grew the one below that one and gave it to me – this one is so easy to keep! (Anyone know the name of this plant??)
