HAM AND BEAN RECIPE INSTANT POT – SERVE WITH CORNBREAD, OR EAT AS HAM AND BEAN SOUP! ALSO KNOWN AS SOUP BEANS, HAM AND BEAN SOUP, OR BEANS AND CORNBREAD.
I made these beans and ham in my instant pot tonight, and boy was I surprised at how FLAVORFUL they were within such a short amount of time. Normally to make this, I would soak the beans overnight, then simmer them all day long. With this method, it took 90 minutes from start to finish (from dry beans!!). Used a whole lot less electricity too.
Having used the beans and ham stovetop method, the beans and ham crockpot method, and the beans and ham instant pot method . . . . for me, the instant pot method takes 1st place for being most time-saving, most flavorful, and easiest.
All you need to make this filling hearty meal is:
1 lb dry beans (I used pinto, but any kind will do!), rinsed
1 onion, chopped or sliced
1 ham hock
1/2 cup diced ham
salt and pepper
Put all ingredients in instant pot. Fill with enough water to cover about 2 inches above beans.
Cook for 60 minutes on high, then natural release for 20 minutes, then quick release the rest of the pressure.
That’s it! Serve with cornbread or our yummy Easy Perfect French Bread.

This looks delicious. Have you ever tried making it saucier? I am wondering about mixing up some molasses, brown sugar, maple syrup, etc., and then adding it at the end and letting it sauté a bit?
Sounds like a great idea! Let me know how it turns out! 🙂

Excuse me? No life story here – but we are free to do that on our blog if we wish. 🤷♀️ Don’t like it, just move on.

I only have canned beans, is there anyway I make this recipe?
Can you tell me what size instant pot you use?
I use the 8 quart IP!
Hi, this looks so good! Can you tell me how many servings it makes, I couldn’t find that on the page. Thank you!
I would say it makes 6-8 servings.
