THIS THOMAS CUPCAKE TRAIN IS SO ADORABLE AND YET SO SIMPLE. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A CAKE DECORATOR TO MAKE THIS FOR YOUR LITTLE FELLA!
What an adorable way to make a Thomas cake train for your little one’s birthday!
The candy topped cupcakes add lots of bright colors to the decor and are easy to serve. Make the train as long as you need based on how many guests will be attending, or just keep back some extra cupcakes if it starts getting too long.
THOMAS CUPCAKE TRAIN
For the train cars:
Start by connecting 2 marshmallows together using a toothpick. You will need two sets for each car. Using a little icing as glue, set a graham cracker on top of the marshmallows and let sit overnight to allow it to dry. In the same way, add oreos to the sides of the marshmallows to finish the wheels. I used Winter oreos with red cream to add even more color!
For the cupcakes:
Bake as many cupcakes as needed and make a batch of buttercream frosting. I left mine white and piped a large swirl onto each cupcake. Now for the fun part! Choose several different kinds of candies and top your cupcake. I tried to find a variety of shapes and colors and flavors! Gummy bears, white Whoppers, Mike and Ike, M&M’s, Cookie Dough bites, Reese’s Pieces… so many choices that every guest will be sure to find something they love!
I found my Thomas as part of a ‘stacking set’. Check it out here! He was the perfect size! Each train car will hold two cupcakes, but I would wait to put the cupcakes in place on top the cars until shortly before the party. My graham crackers started to bend a little from the weight of them after several hours.
This wall ‘Scene Setter’ from Amazon fit great on our dining room wall and really added to the overall look of our party!
Add this adorable balloon bouquet to make your party even more festive!
Where can I buy the rectangular graham crackers for the cupcake train?
Thank you.
